Science vs. Faith

“Great are the works of the Lord, studied by all who delight in them.”  – Psalm 111:2 (ESV)

It’s funny how nowadays I hear a lot of people saying: “I don’t believe in God, I believe in Science”, thus separating God from Science and associating the latter with Atheism. And by “funny” I of course mean not funny because it’s actually sad, very sad, where we are headed lately.

You say you don’t believe in God because you believe in all that is factual and scientifically proven. “No one has ever seen God and no one can prove scientifically he exists, therefore God doesn’t exist.” You might not realize the absurdity of this statement now and to you it might make perfect sense, but unfortunately for you, the existence of God doesn’t depend on scientific proof.

Not that there isn’t any scientific proof of his existence, but what I perceive as proof of intelligent design you reduce to pure coincidence so to avoid going in circles, ones that many have gone into before to no avail, I will not base my argument on scientific proof, instead I will base it on what in my opinion is proof enough of his existence, on Faith. Now at this point you might probably be thinking: “You gotta be kidding me, right? I know you’re not stupid enough to try to convince me based on faith!”. Well, actually I am gonna bring up the topic of faith. Why? Well because faith is something we all base our lives on. To prove it to you, I’m gonna give you a few examples of faith that you use in your everyday life.

Is it not by faith that you go to work everyday for a salary that you haven’t earned yet?
Is it not by faith that you take a painkiller to get the relief that you haven’t felt yet?
Is it not by faith that you plant a seed and take care of it to become the tree that you haven’t eaten of yet?
Is it not by faith that you study hard to get a good grade that you haven’t earned yet?
Is it not by faith that you do all these things? Is it not by faith that you live your whole life?

Well if having faith to you is something stupid, then I’m sorry to tell you that you, by all means, are more stupid than the average person because you are guilty of your own convictions. By your own admission, you are stupid for going to work if you don’t get paid upfront, you are stupid for taking a painkiller if you don’t get the relief before taking the pill, you are stupid for planting a seed, studying hard and so on so forth. Unfortunately for you, faith is a deciding factor whether God exists or not, because even if you don’t “believe” he exists, you still have faith that he doesn’t exist.

Now where does faith come from in the first place? How is it that we have something built in within us that drives us to have faith in all areas of our lives? Well I think God intended for things to be that way ever since he created everything and put the whole system in order. I believe God put faith in us because without faith we couldn’t achieve anything. I believe God put faith in us because he has faith and we are created in his own image and likeness. Hebrews 11:3 says: “By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.” Since God created everything that is seen from things that are not visible then clearly God has faith and he created us to be just like him, people who have faith!

So unfortunately for you, faith does not oppose science simply because science is the study of what my Father created by faith! That being said, faith cannot be separated from Science. They are in fact irreversibly joined together, and any attempt to separate one from the other would simply come against human nature.
