The Word of God Breaks Rocks – Jeremiah 23:29

When I was praying this morning, God showed me a picture of a robust man in his fifties or maybe sixties, holding a hammer and chisel in his hands. This man who looked very experienced and vigorous to me approached a big square rock on the side of the road and with a single thrust made a giant crack in it. When I woke up from the vision, I asked God about its meaning and instantaneously got reminded of a verse I had heard before about the Word of God being a hammer that breaks rocks in pieces. So I looked the verse up and found it in Jeremiah 23:29. This is what it says: “Is not my word like fire, declares the Lord, and like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?” (ESV).

What I felt God saying to me from this image was that the Word of God in all its forms (The bible, Jesus and his word spoken privately to each one of us) is able to shatter every rock that has been able to form around our hearts over the years; even if it seems to us like a very NICE (square) rock which we so often guard with very good care and in which we hide from harm and distress, not knowing that it’s still a rock that is growing around our heart of flesh, hindering it from becoming after God’s own heart.
